I started my professional journey working with diverse student populations in various educational settings across California. From middle school students to those in alternative education and high school environments, I managed a substantial caseload of 1,000 students across a wide region. This experience honed my organizational skills and reinforced my dedication to student welfare.
A decade ago, I relocated to Texas, where I continued my impactful work as a comprehensive high school counselor, managing a caseload of 500 students annually. My leadership abilities quickly became apparent, leading to my role as Lead High School Counselor. In this position, I oversaw a team of 12 counseling professionals while remaining actively engaged with students.
My passion for guiding students through their educational journeys led to an opportunity to serve as the Dean of College, Career, and Military Readiness at the district level. In this pivotal role, I support seniors across the district as they transition to post-secondary education or military service. My responsibilities include assisting with college applications, financial aid, and scholarships, impacting the lives of over 500 students and families each year.
My journey is a testament to my unwavering passion for education and my commitment to making a positive impact on students’ lives. From individual counseling roles to district-level leadership, I have dedicated my career to ensuring that every student has the support and guidance they need to succeed.
As a first-generation Indian American navigating my own education, I realized firsthand the lack of support available for students and parents like me. This experience fueled my passion to make a difference. I am committed to helping families understand and navigate the education system, ensuring they have the knowledge and resources to make the best decisions for their futures. My goal is to be the guide I wish I had, empowering others to achieve their educational dreams.
Looking back, I realize there were opportunities I missed in my own educational journey. If I could do it over, I would have visited more colleges and universities to find the best fit for me. I would have also explored how financial aid might have impacted my costs at different schools. While I was fortunate enough to graduate debt-free with both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, thanks to the costs being covered, I now understand the importance of thoroughly exploring all options to make the most informed decision possible.
